Sublimation

An overview

Sublimation printing is the application of sublimation inks onto a surface using a heat press to provide the required combination of heat, time and pressure. This combination causes the inks to be converted from a solid to a gaseous state enabling them to penetrate the sublimatable surface so that a permanent, full colour image is formed. The colour penetrates the surface of the item so that the result is colourful, long lasting and resistant to scratching unlike some other printing methods that merely print onto the surface of the item.

The process of Dye Sublimation printing is incredibly flexible, allowing anyone to produce a wide range of ‘true retail quality’ items.

Within design and technology, the process of dye sublimation is excellent for printing onto a wide range of resistant materials and the process works equally well in the textiles department.

Sublimation is ideal for business enterprise and recent months have seen an explosion of schools using the sublimation process for their Business Enterprise clubs with great success!

Because the equipment has a low initial cost and there is a wide range of low cost blank printable items, it means that the enterprise team’s products will appeal to a wide customer base resulting in high potential sales.

A school that invested in an entry level Starter Pack A in the Summer have been using the system to run three business enterprise companies with Year 6 students. The school held a Christmas bazaar and raised £1000 from the sale of goods manufactured by the business enterprise companies.
